Xian Ni Chapter 6 – Snobbish

Obligatory TLNote: Already covered what i had to say in previous chapter’s tlnote, so enjoy the double release.

Tie Zhu remained silent, Wang Zhuo quipped mockingly: “I have said this before too, this kid isn’t cut out for this, was hyped up in vain, I was selected in the very first test and could not see him until later when I heard that he failed all three tests, didn’t listen to me earlier, it would have been better for him to not go, even Fourth Uncle’s son is better than him.” [TLNote: What a Prick, Seriously]

Tie Zhu’s Fourth Uncle, frowned and shouted: “Wang Zhuo even if you become a Saint, don’t you dare be presumptuous infront of me whether or not my nephew is cut out for it, is none of your business, you impudent brat.”

Wang Zhuo’s expressions freeze, letting out a bitter smile he remained silent.

Tie Zhu’s father who seemingly suddenly aged more than a decade, slumped back into his chair. Tie Zhu’s mother, was shocked, couldn’t bring herself to believe it and asked: “Tie Zhu…..Is it…..Is it true?”

Tie Zhu bit his lip hard enough to make it bleed, ignoring the blood, knelt down touching his head to the ground, whispered: “Father, Mother, I could not get admitted as a disciple to the Sect, I am Sorry…..I ….. I will definitely pay back my debt to you in the next life.” [TLNote: For explanation as to why he says this refer R’s Comment here]

Tie Zhu’s mother noted the tone of despair in her son’s voice, and immediately ran over to pick him up, sobbing she said: “It’s all right my child, do not be sad, even if you were not admitted to the sect, there is always the district exam next year, it is the same thing, no need to do anything stupid, relax because after all your father and mother will be relying on you to fulfill our final rites.”

Tie Zhu’s father also came to his senses at this time, seeing the expression on his son’s face he was shocked to the core, he anxiously said: “Tie Zhu, no need to do anything stupid, you still have me, listen to me, go home and study for the examination next year which would be the same for us.”

The relatives who till now had been surrounding Tie Zhu’s parents immediately distanced themselves, with mocking expressions on their faces started indulging in gossip.

“That kid Tie Zhu, I didn’t think so earlier but how can he and his brother Wang Zhuo be compared, this is a disgrace to our clan’s name” Tie Zhu’s Father’s sixth brother quipped. [TLNote: Reason I am not using Uncle is because 1. Uncle was not used here, 2. Family is complicated with concubines and what not so I am going the literal translation route here]

“If we could have known about this earlier that he would not be accepted, then we could have avoided losing face. Ah Lao Er you are a grown-up man, how come you did something this stupid no wonder father didn’t give you share in family property.” Tie Zhu’s Father’s third younger brother said mockingly while grimacing in disgust.

“If you ask me this kid being smart from childhood in all likelihood, is a story cooked up by Lao Er who himself couldn’t achieve anything in his life and thus boasted about his child such fantasies which now have finally been debunked.” Tie Zhu’s fifth Uncle who until now was sitting beside Tie Zhu’s father praising incessantly, didn’t take time to change his attitude toward him.

“Three kids undertook the test, out of them, only one failed that is Tie Zhu who performed the worst among our Wang Clan’s nominees and brought disgrace, hmph. Second Sister-in-law I said that may you and second brother enjoy a happy life together, so take care because now it looks like you are not meant to have good fortune in this life” A female relative quipped.

“Yeah, I also went to their village a few days ago and at that time I was pondering how this Tie Zhu being so foolish, could be compared to Wang Zhuo and Wang Hao” Tie Zhu’s Fifth Uncle’s Wife said in a ridiculing tone and making a mocking expression.

“I also know this Tie Zhu is no good,  just have a look at his father and mother, how can they give birth to a good child the Wang Clan’s Eldest brother and Third Brother both have good children having a bright future ahead of them. Bah, even his nickname Tie Zhu feels silly” Another female relative standing not far from Tie Zhu, quipped.

“Ahh, I must have been blind a moment ago, I was about to push my unmarried daughter into a fire pit, luckily Tie Zhu wasn’t admitted into Heng Yue Sect, otherwise my daughter would have hated me for a lifetime. Tie Zhu’s mother we can consider the marriage arrangement between us to be annulled, since your child did not get selected who would even give his unmarried daughter to you, after all this is like a Toad lusting after Swan’s flesh. [TLNote: Chinese Idiom, roughly (as you might have guessed)means someone unworthy trying to attain a girl beyond his stature]

For a while, almost all the relatives revealed their snobbish behaviour and their spiteful words started getting more and more serious as they relentlessly berated Tie Zhu’s family.

This scene, compared to when everyone was flattering, is like heaven and earth Even worse, was people bluntly asked Tie Zhu’s parents to return the complimentary gifts that they had given earlier, who were listening to all this with pale faces, Wang Lin was clenching his fists tightly, feeling intense pain in his heart and even more he had a feeling of wanting to die, hearing all the mocking words being spoken by people around him.

Wang Zhuo’s father was rejoicing in his heart, said casually: “Lao Er, I told you before too, that the Saints are very strict in their requirements when accepting disciples, unless someone is very good, like my son, one doesn’t really stand much of a chance, but you still pushed seriously and now your son doesn’t even have a wish to live anymore, so why did you bother in the first place?”

Tie Zhu’s father who was now fed up, turned his head fiercely to glower angrily before shouting: “Wang Tian Shan, just shut up, when my father died he had clearly left a part for me in his will, but you after a great effort managed to steal my share in connivance with others, and even so Wang Tian Shui you really dare taunt me when you yourself do not have any courage and uprightness!

Not to mention, you all relatives who were just now weren’t getting tired flattering, now cynically adding insult to injury, don’t you have even an ounce of humanity!”

Wang Tian Shan, in an angry tone said: “Why are you dragging in past affairs, I only gave your son a good piece of advice that he is not cut out for it, instead of thanking me you are getting angry at me. Anyways, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, like father like son, his son also deluded himself on his father’s instigations.”

The words of ridicule and disdain were falling into Wang Lin’s ears and were piercing his heart like thorns and tearing it apart, he could barely choke back his tears, and all the relatives around him were looking at this with indifference.

“You! ! Fight me right now!” Tie Zhu’s father standing up from his stool, but Tie Zhu’s fourth uncle rushed out to him, and stopped him before whispering: “Second Brother, do not act impulsively, Eldest brother has lot of servants at home right now, you would be at a disadvantage, don’t worry I will stand by your side.”

Saying so, he stared at Wang Tian Shan and said: “Eldest Brother, I can no longer tolerate you insulting my Second Brother before me, if you insult him further then do not blame for ignoring our brotherly bonds, even though the Wang Clan is huge, I too have made many friends around the country over the years, so don’t even dare to think of getting away scot-free!”

Wang Tianshan clearly understood just how big of a threat the words spoken by his Fourth Brother were as he inwardly feared him very much.

“Lao Si, you shouldn’t say this, Lao Er’s son is not cut out for becoming Saint, what wrong did we do by talking about it? This kid is no good, us Elders are not even allowed to say something about it, that cannot be justified.” Clan Eldest Third Grandfather said discontentedly.

Wow! Thank you for your hard work! I’m so pissed off for the MC, hopefully he becomes OP and shows them all soon.

  2. avery March 18, 2015 / 1:14 am

Why do I have such murderous intent against these characters? Well at least his parents did not turn 8th him.
But seriously what is up with authors making snobbish a**holes have everything perfect for them and everyone in the books love them? I doubt I could control myself from beating them half to death. And mac’s need to grow a serious spine.

    • voidtranslations March 18, 2015 / 10:07 pm

Well, I would assume it is all part of the growing up process letting the MC experience the harsh realities of life at an early age making him mature faster.

  4. Kaleely March 18, 2015 / 5:09 am

Wow I know usually Xianaxia MC’s have to overcome something in their childhoods. But I have never seen an entire chapter dedicated to bashing the MC like this. Those people are too much.

    Thanks for the translation.

There is a slight misunderstanding in the concept explanation here though the translation is accurate.

    This line:

“Father, Mother, I could not get admitted as a disciple to the Sect, I am Sorry…..I ….. I will definitely pay back my debt to you in the next life.”

The concept explained is right that the debt is unpayable and all, but Tie Zhu was talking about himself not having anymore will to live and can only repay the debt incurred this life to his parents in next life. It means he isn’t willing to life anymore. Thats a suicide line commonly spoken in chinese movies and novels.

Other related usually spoken between lovers at wits end will be “We will meet again in our next life.” with a few other uses in martial themed novels.

Ahh I see, well it’s understandable, I guess I was subconsciously trying to infuse my own cultural influence on the translation. Thanks for pointing it out. I will fix it immediately.

    • uzumakikyoshiro July 3, 2015 / 12:41 am

I’m laughing cause I can’t wait till every fricking snobbish adult is appalled when the MC becomes OP!! XD

  12. Abyssdarkfire July 5, 2015 / 2:09 pm

I think I rather not come than have to face that humiliation

  13. 17th Aesir July 18, 2015 / 3:29 pm

    Thanks for the translation.

I think the 5th uncle is right, I don’t really that the mc is smart.

  14. 17th Aesir July 18, 2015 / 3:31 pm

    Thanks for the translation.

I think the 5th uncle is right, I don’t really see that the mc is smart.

    • Shari August 19, 2015 / 6:40 am

Hmm… To be honest, we haven’t seen any of the MC capabilities yet. Being smart does not equate being talented. All we have seen so far was his strong resolve and determination to become a disciple.

  15. Shari August 19, 2015 / 6:42 am

It pisses me off that they can easily treat Wang Lin like a piece of shit after finding out he didn’t pass. Cant wait for MC to shove their arrogant and disdainful faces after he becomes op in the future. Cuz we alll know he will (wink wink, nudge nudge)

  16. miztoo November 16, 2015 / 11:55 pm

Slightly boring for now. I mean, character develpment and all, I don’t mind, but reading 6 or 7 times dumb people bashing the main character, it’s not annoying, it’s boring.
Same for the fact that the mc wants to die… It might be understandable in the chinese culture, but I just find it too much from my occidental point of view…

As I’ve already read ISSH, I know this author does an excellent job, so I’ll just have to be patient.
